Run with the Nuns

More than 200 bikers rolled into Chennault International Airport for the Lake Charles inaugural Run with the Nuns Bike Ride on Saturday. Organized by the Christus St. Patrick Foundation, the fund-raising event included live bands, vendors, a rice & gravy cook-off, and a motorcycle and a Car and Truck show. The Car and Truck show was sponsored by the Idlers Show Cars and Show Trucks of Lake Charles.

According to Kay Barrett, Executive Director of Development for Christus St. Patrick Foundation, the event raised $50,000 for “The Center for Healthy Living.” The $5-million center is scheduled to break ground in late summer or early fall near Christus St. Patrick Hospital. Upon its completion, the center will promote health and wellness in the area.

RUN WITH THE NUNS - BENEFIT Motorcycle, Car and Truck Show.

THIS SATURDAY, MARCH 26, 2011, IS THE "RUN WITH THE NUNS" SHOW....THIS WILL BENEFIT THE CENTER FOR HEALTHY LIVING AT CHRISTUS ST. PATRICKS HOSPITAL. THE SHOW STARTS AT 9 AM BUT PLEASE BE THERE BY 8 AM. THE ENTRY FEE IS A $20.00 DONATION PER CAR AND 1 DRIVER WHICH INCLUDES BREAKFAST AND LUNCH (sampling of the rice and gravy cook off).

IT WILL BE AT CHENNAULT INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT. HEAD EAST ON LEGION ST. AND TURN RIGHT AT THE FIRST STOP LIGHT. AGAIN PLEASE HAVE CARS AND TRUCKS THERE AT 8 AM ON SATURDAY.

SOME OF THE EVENTS TAKING PLACE ARE AS FOLLOWS:
MOTORCYCLE RIDE AND SHOW, CAR AND TRUCK SHOW, MUSIC PROVIDED BY A BAND FROM 10A-2P, A 50 FOOT LONG JUMP FOR THE KIDS, A RICE AND GRAVY COOK OFF AND OTHER VENDORS.

THE IDLERS ARE GIVING AWAY 3 TROPHIES AND DOOR PRIZES AND HAVING THE 50/50 DRAWING. THERE WILL ALSO BE A NEW SET OF TIRES FROM PUMPELLYS RAFFLED.

WES WANTS ALL THAT CAN MAKE IT TO PLEASE COME AND JOIN US FOR A VERY WORTHY CAUSE....THE WEATHER IS SUPPOSED TO BE "GREAT" AND THERE WILL BE LOTS OF GREAT PEOPLE PARTICIPATING!!

River Fest - Lake Arthur, Louisiana

If you missed River Fest in Lake Arthur you missed a great car, truck and motorcycle show. There were at least 200 cars, trucks and motorcycles attending. Several awards were won by Idlers members. The food was great and the hospitality was even better. Many thanks to the people of Lake Arthur and Illinois for their efforts in this special event. We will be back next year.

March 12, 2011 Car and Truck Show.

The postponed March 5, 2001 Idlers Car and Truck show and shine weekend is scheduled for March 12, 2011 at the Burton Coliseum parking lot.

There will be Hamburgers, Sausage and soft drinks. Also trophies and door prizes. So come out and enjoy the cars, trucks and good friends on Saturday. See you there.

March Car Show Postponed Till March 12th

Idlers Show Cars and Show Truck March Show and Shine

Even with the gloomy forecast, the 1st Saturday of March Show is still scheduled. It is this Saturday, 3/5/11. The show is scheduled to be held at the Burton Coliseum parking lot Lake Charles, LA at 2 PM. There will be hamburgers and sausage this time with door prizes, trophies and more!

Mark's 1955 Chevrolet Project

Check out Mark's 1955 Chevy project. Mark is a new member and recently wrote me about his Classic Chevy.

I bought this car about 1 1/2 years ago in San Marcos, TX. It was bought from the original owner in a small town about 30 minutes from San Marcos by a father and son as a restore project about 20 years ago so I am the third owner. The son (who has been a frame guy in body shops all his life) has always kept the car indoors so the car is really straight and solid. With the exception of a replaced front pass. lower 1/4 panel (not due to rust) and very little tail pan repair, the car has all the original metal. He had the body blasted, body work done and epoxy primed when I bought it. Since I have had the car, I have removed the body off the frame, and used POR 15 to paint the frame and under the body. I replaced the original rear end with a 1972 Camero rear end, will run a 305 engine and 700R transmission. Other upgrades are 2 inch drop disc in front, 500 series power steering, old air a.c. unit, electric fan and aluminum radiator. Also I have updated the belt system with a serpentine set up out of an 89 GM truck. I am going to keep the car it's original 210 trim and paint it original 50s two tone paint. I still have the exhaust to run, new wiring to install and the front clip to install before I can get it on the road hopefully by early summer.

Run with the Nuns

The Idlers were asked to participate in the "Run with the Nuns" event on March 26, 2011. This is a benefit for the Center For Healthy Living at Christus St. Patrick's Hospital. It begins at 8 am at Chennault International Airport. There will be a motorcycle run and motorcycle show plus our car and truck show.

Entry fee is $20.00 per car which includes a free breakfast. Also you will be able to sample all the entries in the rice and gravy cook off without any cost. There will also be parachute jumping, a band, other vendors and more.

February Idlers Car & Truck Show.

The Idlers Show Cars and Show Trucks gathered together at Fazzio's Napa Auto Center located at 1013 Beglis Parkway in Sulphur, LA. The Car and Truck show was held February 5, 2011. There were 30 to 40 cars and trucks in attendance, along with James' very popular Cushman scooter. See images below of some the nice cars attending.
